Sculpture

This sculpture was made in the historic textile and weaving town of Ústí nad Orlicí in the Czech Republic 2023.
The sculpture won a competition for environmentally friendly sculptures. The main inspiration for the artwork is the old textile factory Perla that shut down when textile manufacturing became cheaper in Asia.
The sculpture conveys a story of how we perceive the current textile industry. Distorted shapes of the iconic slavic jungle gym while being overgrown with problems.
The structure is made out of reused rebar from construction sites and thick hemp rope. By knitting the rope and attaching it to the rebar, we reference the old practices of Perla. The sculpture is interactive as you can climb on it, hang in it and walk under it, making the sculpture a part of the culture of Ústí. It currently sits in front of Perla and a leisure center for kids.
This project was made in collaboration with Sculpture Line and Józef Pilat.
