Sculpture
The idea for this project won
in a environmental sculpture competition. The competition was held in Prague by Sculpture Line and the European Union.
The sculpture resides in the historic textile and weaving town of Ústí nad Orlicí in the Czech Republic.
The sculpture conveys a story of how we perceive the current textile industry. Distorted shape of the iconic slavic jungle gym and overgrown with problems.
Our main inspiration for the sculpture was the old textile factory Perla that shut down when textile manufacturing became cheaper in Asia.
The structure is made out of reused rebars from construction sites and thick hemp rope. By knitting the rope into the rebars we refer to the old practices of Perla. The sculpture is interactive as you can climb on it, hang around in it and walk under. Making the sculpture a part of the culture of Ústí. It currently sits in front of Perla and a leisure center for kids.
This project was made in collaboration with Józef Pilat with amazing help from Kaca and Anas.
